Akeewakee was established in 2003 in the heart of the French Quarter of New Orleans as a small boutique on St. Ann Street. It was born from a passion shared by three friends - Akee, Cory and Timothy - to sell products that carry one far away from the stressful realities of everyday life, in a natural and environmentally appreciative way. The boutique featured a collection of luxuriously scented soy candles of unconventional design, hand poured and designed by Akee.
In January of 2005, Akeewakee was approached by a Chicago landmark, Marshall Field’s on State Street, and was invited to be featured in the world’s second largest department store.
After hurricane Katrina forced the closure of the French Quarter boutique, Akee and Cory devoted a full year at the Chicago store. They proudly received it’s premier space at the main entrance and gained valuable insight directly from our growing customer base. There is still a strong desire to open the original store in the French Quarter, but there are no immediate plans.
Akeewakee’s devotion remains to capture the essence of all good things that come from nature. It’s to our great delight that you may have the peace of mind to burn an environmentally friendly candle that complements your lifestyle, and that you may be proud to give an Akeewakee candle as an unforgettable gift to someone you care about.
